TikTok tests uploading 60-minute videos to become YouTube
As part of its never-ending effort to become more like YouTube, TikTok is now exploring uploads of 60-minute videos. According to the business, TechCrunch, only a small subset of customers in “selected markets” can presently access the service.
Though there aren’t any immediate intentions to expand this, the concept is clear: TikTok can draw in some more viewers from YouTube by offering longer-form content in addition to its typical audience of users who are just searching for short-form videos to scroll through.
Similar to YouTube in the past, TikTok had a 15-minute upload limit at launch, but over the last few years, this has gradually expanded. According to TikTok, company frequently receives requests from creators for more time for content such as humorous sketches, instructional lesson plans, food demonstrations, and beauty instructions. Thus, this is its response to such inquiries.
As to the company’s statement, the objective of the extended duration is to allow content creators to explore novel or extended forms of content that would not be feasible otherwise, or would be laborious to watch if you have to go through several films.
Additionally, this allows complete TV show episodes to be uploaded to the site. A year ago, Peacock released the first episode of a show on TikTok, albeit it was divided into five parts. There won’t be any more hoops for you to go through if something similar happens.
To finish being YouTube-ified, TikTok has also been experimenting a full-screen, horizontal mode with thumbnails that scrub videos.
